5. The Ganker
The ganker should be left in the hands of relatively skilled players since they have to know where and when to go to a particular lane and help in killing the enemy heroes in the said lane. Gankers usually have ranged disables and a large manapool to allow them to roam the map freely without having to worry HP and MP regeneration. It is not common to see people using gankers and actually knowing what their role is. A ganker’s job is to continually roam the map in search of allies needing help in a kill or setting up a kill in a particular lane. I would usually recommend that gankers be the warders too since they don’t need a lot of items except shoes so that they can roam faster. It is advisable that gankers start roaming at Level One to maximize their use and potential.
One of my favourite gankers in DotA would be Rylai given her convenient skill set of a skill that slows and a skill that prevents the enemy hero from moving. Her third skill also not just helps herself but her allies as well by providing global mana regeneration. Another good ganker would be Shendelzare Silkwood.
HoN has its own unique set of gankers, one of my favourite and possibly the best would be the Electrician; with a 4.75 second disable (at Level Four) and fast cooldown, it’s one the more advisable gankers. Another good option would be Glacius which has the same skill set as The Crystal Maiden.
Each player has his own unique personality and preference, and thus the hero they pick should match theirs. Randomly picking a hero without knowing that hero’s forte would effectively nerf that hero’s potential and thus some might say a hero is “UNDERPOWERED” when in fact they are not. Knowing your hero’s role and you should do it is every player’s responsibility.
Always remember humility is a virtue that leads to higher learning and eventually better playing performance. Never be afraid to lose, it is from experience that we gain greater understanding on what we should have done and what went wrong.
