Since online gaming have been reigning around the internet nowadays, game masters see to it that they should always make it on the top by giving regular updates to the game. One of the games I know that updates its plot and map regularly is a Warcraft custom map named Defense of the Ancients, otherwise known as DoTa. Icefrog is the ‘architect’ of this popular offline/online game. Well, only a year ago, S2 released an outstanding balanced gameplay that’s seen as an active emulation of DoTa. It is called Heroes of Newerth (a.k.a HoN). They were giving away betakeys in order to ordeal their open beta game play. And for the latest news, I think it’s already a p2p (pay2play) game.
And of course, Heroes of Newerth is intended to be not a perfect simulation of DoTa. So, I know most of you guys are asking, what are their differences? So here, I’ve listed some of their differences and similarities in GAMEPLAY that I’ve come across while playing these two.
Original Item and Item Prices!
While there are noticeably original items from HoN, there are of course those that are imitated from DoTa. You can identify them by checking the items’ prices. Yes, their prices are comparable that you could easily make out which is which.
Heroes and Hero Skill Names!
It is not very hard to tell apart which HoN hero is replicated from DoTa. Well, of course for easy access, you could try their skills out and you’ll understand how to deal with the hero. Some players just have to thank DoTa for being the platform to play in able to realize the game play of HoN. Anyway, picking of heroes is phased before entering the map. When you’re not able to choose before the time limit, you will be given a Random hero.
The Leaver’s Heaven and Hell
Well, if your connection is really bad that you have to restart your connection and disconnect from a game, you have a portion of a few minutes to reconnect and clash back in the game. On the other hand, it’s a leavers’ dilemma because player who don’t jump back in the game after disconnecting will get a hold of a leaver’s percentage, and when it reaches a certain of inacceptable percentage, the leaver will no longer be able to join decent game rooms where leavers are banned. Whereas in DoTa (Garena), leavers are free to do their thing whenever they want to, without getting any reprimand.
Personal Skill Rating
HoN routinely gives each player a rating based on their wins/losses. Player’s wins and losses will be accounted according to PSR’s of their opponents. The starting/default PSR is 1500.
Orbs
I guess, HoN doesn’t absorb the orbs priorities thus far.
Other Features…
- Voice Chat Built
- Improved Graphics
- Custom hot keys
- Better Game Hosting!
- Additional Game modes
- Vote Kick System

Pub Skill Rating ata yung PSR.. do double check
ung orb naman sa HoN.. pwde ka pumili kung ano ung magiging primary orb mo kung 2 na orb mo.. may maliit na icon sa taas ng minimap. e.g. elder’s orb+frostburn’s orb.. di un nagpapatong, you can choose which orb to choose.
btw, theres good news for HoN gamers.

pass the good news around
@eric brizuela
its not like you’re paying for nothing. i mean, unlike dota, hon has stats, achievements and the most useful feature, the leaver system. it means leavers would not be able to join a non leaver game. that and more.
@papa solon
if by “orbs” you mean “attack modifiers” they’ve changed it so that they wont stack. on the other hand, not all “orbs” in dota is an “attack modifier” in hon. e.g. thunderclaw, nullfire blade etc. so 2 orbs can stack in a different manner.
pinoy vs. pinoy games na naman… zzzz… balik 1500 sayang ung mga 1800+ pati 1700+ na accts ko
The orbs have been fixed. If you’ll notice there are little icons above the minimap which indicates which orb is in effect and can switch the orb effect by clicking the icon of the orb you want.
Making the game a pay-to-play system is great since it roots out all the whack-jobs who really suck since they don’t want to play a game where they obviously suck-in and pay at the same time. Good thing HoN went p2p it really annoys me to see people with PSR’s as low as 600, HOW BAD CAN A PLAYER GET that they reach that level of “BADNESS.”
Heroes of Newerth is going to be Free to play in the philippines.
they’re giving out beta keys via facebook:
