Hello players! Timepers is about to launch real soon and we’re starting to be sharing the basics of what you need to know about the existing games here in the Philippines!
Apparently, there are millions of Filipino who are currently getting hooked into a variety of games offered offline and online. It has been natural that when Filipinos talk about computer/console games, they automatically associate and equate it to RPG and MMORPG. These two acronyms are very popular not only for Filipino teens but also to everyone else in the world. Moreover, there is in fact a yearly release of RPG and MMORPG games that are being enjoyed by players, be it online or offline. But what exactly are RPGs and MMORPGs and why are they totally addicting? Well, to begin with here are their definition along with their interesting features.
What are RPGs and MMORPGs?
RPG or Role-playing game is any online or offline game in which the players take on the roles of some fantastic characters in a fictional setting made and lead by a game master (GM).
MMORPG or Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game is a genre of RPG/Role-playing Game in which a great number of players network, interact, and work together in a fictional world with various themes such as science, sword and sorcery, and crime.
What’s the Difference between RPG and MMORPG?
RPGs and MMORPGs have several things in common, but there are still dramatical differences in some of their conditions and features. The primary difference between the two is obviously the capacity of players that they could hold and support. MMORPGs are capable of supporting thousands of player simultaneously while RPG can only let atleast 10 people to play at the same. Well, basically, MMORPGs require an internet connection to be able to level up on the game and to interact as well with all the people around the world in a very large scale. Since MMORPG is a genre of RPG, MMORPG merely borrows most of the characteristics and features of the RPG. What are these features and characteristics then?
What are the common elements of RPGs/MMORPGs?
Character’s Development
This is the primary target of a RPG/MMORPG player. Every player’s goal is to earn experience points in every quest that he accomplishes. Experience points are gained in various ways like killing monsters, completing quests and any other.
Plot and Setting:
RPGs and MMORPGs have usually common themes of sorcery, fantasy and science fiction. This is one of the factors that MMORPG lovers would consider upon choosing a good MMORPG to spend their time on to.
Social Interaction
Virtual interaction sometimes work to some people. This could be one of the reasons why RPG has maximized into a MMORPG where social interaction is more possible and more exciting. Players could interact with another person in the world through chat, clan, party etc. Well, it’s always fun to say: “The bigger, the better”!
Abilities, Skills, Weapons and Items
We all know for a fact that adventurers must have something to have in themselves before they resolve into a situation. Well, as a player, this is also one of the features that I test out and ensure before registering in any RPG game. All these are usually seen as magical, fantastical and unworldly creations.
RPG and MMORPG servers today are getting crowded. These elements are worth-addicting to and players see to it that they should always be updated once there are new updates and features on their favorite RPG/MMORPG. Moreover, there are a lot of anticipated games to come too, this year 2010.
